Merwolf On-Site Tech Support Report Always willing to please her slobbering fans, Missy forwarded the following trip report to the list. The highlighted notes are Queen Laur's Waterproof Guide to Alpha Geek Techie Reports with a guest appearance by Troubleshooter, the Toolbelt Bearer.
Request for Trip - Amadeus requested an onsite visit for [client name], in Houston, Texas to diagnose and analyze a recurrent, chronic problem with missing tickets and TDM is CLOSED error messages from the Amadeus Host. "TDM is CLOSED" - This is a very serious error message indicating that the Truffled Dar Mousse buffet line is closed. It doesn't matter if you
think you have a ticket, there is no mousse to be had. It is a recurrent
and chronic problem because Dar, as all Amadeus Hosts know, is just that
tasty.
Arrived on site - 10:23AM Friday, June 16th. Departed site - 12:00 Noon Friday, June 16th. Reported problem - users would attempt to ticket pnr's - and would recieve the message "TDM IS CLOSED". The tickets would, according to the site, never be recieved. Amadeus view was that the site was placing their ticketing mechanism in a stop mode voluntarily. "pnr's" - Instructions to 'Please Nibble Rapidly.' This is in effort to make sure the TDM buffet line moves rapidly and does not get clogged by too
many users accessing the TDM at once.
"placing in a stop mode voluntarily" - self-explanatory, but hard to do. Recap of activities - placed datascope on 56K Frame relay circuit, duplicated host error conditions, and recorded results. "56K Frame Relay circuit" - indicates how many K (Kerrys) Dar's frame can relay given an infinite number of Dars and Kerrys.
"host error conditions" - when the Amadeus host refuses to reopen the TDM buffet line. Riot ensues |

Findings. TDM IS CLOSED ISSUE. What is placing this site's TDM into a CLOSED state was not determined as of yet. We believe what might be happening is that the site is using a MACRO to adjust the stock master file, and this MACRO has been placed on a TOOLBAR of certain users, and is being executed accidentally. We are dialing into the controller and investigating this possibility. "MACRO" - the length of Dark Comes the Morning is one example
"adjust the stock master file" - think Hercules in Winter's Ending.... "TOOLBAR" - Troubleshooter? I'm going to let you field this one to give you a chance to regain your card.... Troubleshooter says:
"executed accidentally" - This would be MaryDee's specialty
To understand fully what a TOOLBAR is, you must view the acronym in context. "this MACRO has been placed on a TOOLBAR of certain users" The MACRO (Mobile Aqua Circular Reading Object) is a storage device similar to a compact disc which can hold novels the size of Dark Comes the Morning, as you pointed out. The TOOLBAR (The Oral Optical Light Bard Aqua Reader) is an armored device that is used for either listening to or reading Dark Comes the Morning while in the shower. The MACRO is simply inserted into the orifice of the TOOLBAR and you're ready to go. "dialing into the controller" - Mmmm, can't go there. However; this issue is secondary to what we discovered in regards to the following problem: TICKETS MISSING. I programmed the analyzer to capture all IP traffic to and from the site. The decodes specifically address the IP of the sender, the reciver, the port, and the contents of the IP packet being analyzed. I placed the site's TDM in a closed state by issuing a TZSTOP command. Then I had the site try to drive a ticket, using a standard TTP command. The response the site recieved was not TDM IS CLOSED. The response was: OK PROCESSED**WARNING TDM IS CLOSED*** "capture all IP traffic" - If you have enough SUVs you can do it!!
"TZSTOP command" - A shortcut order to stop the teasing. Not always effective. "drive a ticket" - Very similar function to passes on the bus... "standard TTP command" - Think Turkey Point. A reminder to get large strawberries in order. The record locator reported the tickets having been issued, and charged the customers credit card. No tickets printed at the site. The analyzer, however, captured five packets being sent from the Amadeus HOST to port 3003 for that site's IP address (that is the ticket printer) which were truncated ticket coupons without end of file characters appended. These packets were transferred through the controller, to the ticket printer. The Unimark ticket printer, unable to process the packet due to the lack of the end of file, discarded the packet with no warning. The ticket printer did not ACK or NAK the packet - it returned NO response to the host to the packets at all. (ALC STATS displayed five packets recieved, none acknowledged) "captured five packets" - from an ancient Amazon ritual
involving....packets.
"port 3003" - indicates the number of tons the analyzer device weighs "with out end of file characters" - what happens when Missy gets towards the end of a story and mixes up a few names "Unimark ticket printer" - further proof that ILS relies on just Mark to run Ops when D and K are off on adventures "discarded the packet with no warning" - the sometimes violent end of Amazon rituals "did not ACK or NAK the packet" - obviously certain styles of chopping up were not allowed for the ritual to be followed correctly.... "ALC STATS" - how the American League of Centaurs is doing in the playoffs this fall Therefore - I am opening a SEV 2 PTR which requests that HOST PROGRAMMING address the issue of the ticket delivery mechanism sending inappropriate responses to an error condition. If the TDM is closed, the ticketing software should discard the ticketing request, and return an error to the user requesting a retry. Currently, it is returning an error, but attempting to send partial packets to the site, which are incorrectly built/ended, and causing the Unimark ticket printers to discard the tickets which are then counted in the system as valid. "SEV 2 PTR" - more shorthand.....Soaking Evening for 2 People, Tub Ready
"ticket delivery mechanism" - like grits with less butter and maple syrup "error condition" - usually a lack of Dar or Kerry "user requesting a retry" - Dar's crush list comes into play.... "discard the ticketing request" - Dar's response "attempting to send partial packets to the site" - Dar wondering why they won't just go away "incorrectly built/ended" - just one reason for 'discard the ticketing request' ******************************** Recommendations for [client] - We will advise on any findings regarding the ticketing queue being placed in a deliberate TZSTOP mode. This site requires immediate action to stop the fact that they are losing tickets, which then have to be reissued causing possible ticketing discrepancies and debit memos from the airlines. Either the PTR referenced above must receive priority to be resolved, or this site must be put on a different printer type which has the ability to detect damaged packets and return a NAK if it recieves a ticket fragment. According to technical staff at the NAC, this problem has been seen in Unimarks on both Pectab, and Datablock. This site was on Datablock. I do not know if it occurs in the Genicom or ATB2000, but I have never heard of it on either printer. . I do know it has never been reported in the 885/895 "ticketing queue being placed in a deliberate TZSTOP mode" - those days
when NOBODY gets to tease Dar
"ticketing discrepancies and debit memos" - When you pay for a GTB ride and get run over instead. "put on a different printer type which has the ability to detect damaged packets" - Not gaydar exactly--don't take this the wrong way--more like "whackjob"dar--don't take that the wrong way either. "return a NAK" - Nearly Assimilating Kiss "Pectab" - division of the gym that measures and keeps track of musculature "ATB2000" - At The Busstop Recommendation to account manager - have the site do a tzd before they ticket, especially if they are homepro, until a decision can be reached. This will allow the site to see if their TDM is in a CLOSED (STOPPED) mode, and issue a TZSTART before they run their tickets. "site do a tzd" - a place where there is teasing on demand?
"homepro" - anyone who can put their own blinds up "TZSTART" - let the Teasing Begin Melissa Good EDS - Network Assistance Center |
