Chocolate Cherry Cake with Fudge Icing

For Cake

1 box chocolate cake mix 1 can of cherry pie filling
2 eggs 1 teaspoon almond extract

For Icing

1 cup sugar 5 tablespoons butter, softened
1/3 cup of milk 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 6 oz. pkg.)    
    

Preheat oven to 350. 

Grease a 13x9 inch pan. 

In a large bowl, mix all cake ingredients and mix well.

Pour into prepared pan and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. (until cake tests done - you should be able to peirce it with a sharp knife blade and the knife should  come out clean)

While the cake is baking: In a small saucepan put the sugar, milk and butter.

Bring to a boila nd boil for 1 (one) minute. 

Then remove from heat and add the vanilla and chips.

Wait 30 seconds and then stir very well. 

Pour over warm cake and let cool. (run a knife blade around the cake - it stays in the pan and is served from the pan- so that some of the icing has a chance to go down the sides a little bit.) 

This is a  wonderful, fudgy, choco-cherry indulgence.
